Survey for Freshmen and Juniors

Greetings 9th and 11th grade parents,

On February 9th, 9th and 11th grade students at Saline High School will participate in the MiPHY student survey. 10th and 12th-grade students will not complete this survey. This survey is optional for the students and they may skip any questions they do not want to answer. The anonymous survey is used to help direct school programming as the needs of students change with time. At no point during the survey will the students be asked for any identifying information. The survey will ask about behavior and attitude related to nutrition, physical activity, injuries, tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use. Again, your student may skip any question they do not wish to answer.

You may preview the survey at the High School before your student completes the survey on February 9th at an agreed-upon time. If you do not feel comfortable with your 9th or 11th grade student completing this survey you may opt-out them out by completing an opt-out form. If you have any additional questions or wish to schedule a time to preview the survey please contact James Rafko at RafkoJ@SalineSchools.org or 734-401-4204.

Local Scholarship Opportunities

Last week the Class of 2024 received information about available Local Scholarships for which they may apply. There are many opportunities available! The deadline to complete the applications is Friday, February 23rd at 3:00pm.

2024-25 Scheduling Update

The Counselors will begin working with students to create their 2024-25 high school class schedule beginning in January. Please view the scheduling dates below for your class so you can plan accordingly for the classes you would like to request.

SCHEDULING FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

CLASS OF 2025

December 8 – February 16: CTE applications open
January 10: Class of 2025 scheduling meeting
January 18 – 31: Class of 2025 scheduling appointments with counselors
March 15: Deadline to submit applications for online courses
May 6 – 12: Window for the Class of 2025 to create their schedules
June 6 @ 3:00: Deadline to submit an application for an online class

*NEW SCHEDULE FOR THE CLASS OF 2026*

January 31: Scheduling meeting during Hornet Time. PowerSchool (Class Registration) will be activated on this day.
January 31 – February 7: Window to submit course requests in PowerSchool.
February 8 – 16: Window of time in which you will have a scheduled appointment with your counselor. This will be emailed to you from your counselor on February 8th.
February 16: Deadline to submit a CTE application if you are requesting a CTE class(es). This has not changed.
March 15: Deadline to submit an application if you are requesting an online class(es). This has not changed.

CLASS OF 2027

February 21: Class of 2027 scheduling meeting
February 21 – 26: PowerSchool is open for students to input their course requests and alternates
February 27 – March 6: Class of 2027 scheduling appointments with counselors
March 15: Deadline to submit applications for online courses
May 20 – 27: Window for the Class of 2027 to create their schedules (more information to come as we get closer to this time)

CLASS OF 2028

February 21: 8th grade curriculum night
February 22: Class of 2028 scheduling meeting
February 22 – March 7: PowerSchool open for students to input their course requests and alternates

SWWC Information

What is the SWWC? The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th-grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 900 students participate in state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career. Visit our website to learn more!

As a reminder for sports spectators:

Prohibited Items/Actions:

No Backpacks or Large Bags allowed into the Stadium – return them to a vehicle or leave it in the ticket booth until after the game (not recommended as we are not liable for watching it). Exceptions are diaper bags or a medical/emergency supply bag
Alcohol, tobacco products, and other drugs are NOT allowed at events
No pets/animals – unless service animals
No coolers
No athletic equipment or balls brought in – fans are there to be spectators
School Appropriate Dress in Effect to enter and to stay in the Stadium

MHSAA states the following support items are NOT allowed at games. Items will be confiscated and spectator will be warned and/or REMOVED from the game if found with these items:

Personal Speakers
Confetti
Laser Pointer
Megaphones
Air Horns
Whistles
Fireworks
Live Animals
Inappropriate Inflatables

Unsportsmanlike yelling, chants or profanity directed at players, parents, coaches, officials, spectators, marching band, etc., will result in removal from the game and a possible ban from future events.

Spectators are Allowed to have the following Support Items:

Banners
Hand held signs (as long as no obstruction of view and school appropriate)
- No white boards
Thunder sticks
Rattles
Cowbell
Poms
Rally towels

We want to make sure everyone knows the expectations when joining the student section at any of our events. We love that you attend to support each other, but we also want you to represent yourselves, your families, and your school appropriately.

SHS student section expectations are also the MHSAA and SEC expectations. Please familiarize yourself with these expectations and know that we will enforce them. Cheer positively for your team!

Girls Who Code’s free virtual Summer Programs empower you to build skills, community, and a professional network for your future, in the ways that work best for you. Choose your adventure with two free programs:

Curious to create your own computer games? In our two-week Summer Immersion Program (SIP), you’ll learn how to design your own games using p5.js, a JavaScript library for creative coding. Join classmates and our dedicated Teaching Teams in live virtual classrooms hosted by industry-leading companies like MetLife, Bank of America, Logitech, and Synchrony. We’ve got three rounds to fit your schedule: June 14 to June 28, July 8 to July 19, and July 29 to August 9.

SIP is for current 9th-11th grade girls and non-binary students with beginner or intermediate coding experience, including program alums. Eligible students can even apply for a $300 SIP Student Grant and laptop and hot spot access!
Excited to explore the biggest topics in tech at your own pace? Our six-week Self-Paced Program offers tracks in Web Development, Cybersecurity, and – new for 2024 – Data Science + AI! From July 1 to August 9, you get to decide how and when to build your coding skills, and you can always ask questions in our Discord server or optional Student Hours.
