2024-25 Scheduling Update

The Counselors will begin working with students to create their 2024-25 high school class schedule beginning in January.  Please view the scheduling dates below for your class so you can plan accordingly for the classes you would like to request.

SCHEDULING FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

CLASS OF 2025

  • December 8 – February 16: CTE applications open 
  • January 10: Class of 2025 scheduling meeting
  • January 10 – 16: PowerSchool is open for students to input their course requests and alternates
  • January 17 – 31: Class of 2025 scheduling appointments with counselors
  • March 15: Deadline to submit applications for online courses 
  • May 6 – 12: Window for the Class of 2025 to create their schedules
  • June 6 @ 3:00: Deadline to submit an application for an online class 

CLASS OF 2026

  • December 8 – February 16: CTE application open
  • January 24: Class of 2026 scheduling meeting
  • January 24 – 31: PowerSchool open for students to input their course requests and alternates

Let’s Partner Together AGAIN this Trimester- Attendance Matters!

Attendance MATTERS!  Our goal is for every student to have at least 90% attendance. Students can achieve this by missing no more than 7 absences per class each trimester

We understand that life gets busy and students need to be absent for various reasons, but we ask that every attempt is made for your student to miss as little as possible and these are some of the reasons why:

**Academic Success** Consistent attendance is directly linked to academic success. Students who attend class regularly are more likely to keep up with the curriculum, understand the material, and perform well on assessments.

 **Classroom Engagement** 
Being present in the classroom allows students to actively engage with the learning process. They can participate in discussions, ask questions, and collaborate with their peers, enhancing their overall educational experience.

 **Building a Strong Work Ethic** Regular attendance instills a sense of responsibility and discipline. These are important qualities that contribute to the development of a strong work ethic, which is essential for success not only in academics but also in future careers.

 **Social and Emotional Development** School is not just about academics; it’s also a place for social interaction and personal growth. Regular attendance ensures that students have the opportunity to build relationships with teachers and peers, fostering a supportive and positive learning environment.

**Consistency in Learning** Learning is a cumulative process, and missing classes can lead to gaps in understanding. Regular attendance ensures that students receive consistent instruction, making it easier for them to grasp and retain information.

 **Responsibility and Accountability** Regular attendance teaches students the importance of being accountable for their commitments. It helps them develop the skills needed to balance various responsibilities, which is a valuable life skill.

Failing Grade Letters 1/16- 
The first round of failing grade notifications for Trimester 2 will be sent via school messenger to students & families (students with 0-59% in one or more classes) on TUESDAY afternoon, January 16th. 

Student Absences & Make Up Classwork- 
If a student has an absence that will extend multiple days,  we encourage them to communicate directly with their classroom teachers- prior to the absence (when possible), throughout the absence and also immediately upon returning. As a reminder, students are awarded the same number of days they were absent to make up work when a parent/guardian excuses the absence.  Assignments due to unexcused absences (parent does not report within 72 hours), truancy and skipping class are instances when classwork may not be made up and the student may receive a zero. 

Unexcused Absences/Tardy Notifications- PowerSchool automatically sends parents/guardians a daily notification (around 4 PM) for students with Tardies & Unexcused Absences for that day.  If you believe you received the notification in error or forgot to report the absence, please contact the High School Attendance Desk within 72 hours to update the record. Absence Voicemail Box cna be reached at 734.401.4387– please make sure to leave a clear and detailed message that includes the following: Student First & Last Name, Date of Absence, Reason for Absence and Name of the Person Reporting the Absence.

SWWC Information

  • What is the SWWC? The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th-grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 900 students participate in state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career. Visit our website to learn more!

As a reminder for sports spectators:

Prohibited Items/Actions:

  • No Backpacks or Large Bags allowed into the Stadium – return them to a vehicle or leave it in the ticket booth until after the game (not recommended as we are not liable for watching it). Exceptions are diaper bags or a medical/emergency supply bag
  • Alcohol, tobacco products, and other drugs are NOT allowed at events
  • No pets/animals – unless service animals
  • No coolers
  • No athletic equipment or balls brought in – fans are there to be spectators
  • School Appropriate Dress in Effect to enter and to stay in the Stadium

MHSAA states the following support items are NOT allowed at games. Items will be confiscated and spectator will be warned and/or REMOVED from the game if found with these items:

  • Personal Speakers
  • Confetti
  • Laser Pointer
  • Megaphones
  • Air Horns
  • Whistles
  • Fireworks
  • Live Animals
  • Inappropriate Inflatables
Unsportsmanlike yelling, chants or profanity directed at players, parents, coaches, officials, spectators, marching band, etc., will result in removal from the game and a possible ban from future events.

Spectators are Allowed to have the following Support Items:

  • Banners
  • Hand held signs (as long as no obstruction of view and school appropriate)
    • No white boards
  • Thunder sticks
  • Rattles
  • Cowbell
  • Poms 
  • Rally towels
  • Cheer, have fun, and direct positive energy to hyping up our team! GO HORNETS!

We want to make sure everyone knows the expectations when joining the student section at any of our events. We love that you attend to support each other, but we also want you to represent yourselves, your families, and your school appropriately. 

SHS student section expectations are also the MHSAA and SEC expectations. Please familiarize yourself with these expectations and know that we will enforce them. Cheer positively for your team!
